About The Code Market

"Don't re-invent the wheel!" It's one of the oldest sayings in history and we apply it in most aspects of our lives.
Except for IT. In IT, we think we're smarter than that... So, when a new project or initiative commences, we gather the best staff and say "start coding!".

What if there was a different way to implement software? What if there was a portal that encouraged good software to be re-used, in the appropriate circumstances? That bridged the gap between Demand and Supply? Enter The Code Market...

The Code Market has been designed to offer a market-place for material that is suitable for re-use. The idea is that, in our wired world, many items are being developed that can be used more than once. And re-use benefits all parties.

The Code Market is your portal:

Our Principles are as follows:

Are you in our target market?

We have three principle audiences:

  1. Project Managers who wish to de-risk their projects by engaging with developers with clear referenceability (based on the profiles on The Code Market).
  2. Financial Managers who see the benefit of purchasing material that has been written previously, instead of paying for the material to be written "from scratch".
  3. Developers who are skillful enough to "invent a wheel" thats worthwhile re-using.

Whats for Sale?

Literally, anything that can be packaged into a file! But here are some examples:

  1. Programs that extend existing applications. An example of this might be a module that accomplishes something that many clients might like, but which is not yet delivered by a vendor.
  2. Utilities that extend the use of an existing application. Here an example might be a data migration routine for a specific software package.
  3. Reports and queries that can easily be turned into reports. Common examples here include legislative and sector specific reports.
  4. "Half-wheels" - items which have been created which need to be tweaked for an individual client, but which in themselves would save a client time and reduce risk. Here, an example is a data warehouse, but one which each client may have to populate.
  5. Project Plans and other management items (including best practice, timelines, approaches etc.).
  6. Functional Build documents.
  7. Training Materials.
As you can see, much of what happens on many projects is potentially re-usable, either as an offering in its entirety, or as a starting point.

One final point (but very important!): The Code Market is essentially a place that sells Intellectual Property. Unlike tangible assets, Intellectual Property can easily be copied from somebody else and re-sold. The Code Market takes Intellectual Property Rights extremely seriously and will assist authorities in all practical ways to ensure that the correct owner of any IP is rewarded for their work. Please ensure that you own the right to market and sell anything on The Code Market!
